Doons Van Staden joined Great Basin Gold’s Burnstone team in November 2010 as Group Consulting Mining Engineer and then was appointed as Mining Manager. He is now the General Manager of Burnstone Mine.

Mr. Van Staden has more than 33 years experience in the mining industry. His career began at Union Corporation in Evander as a Learner Official-Mining and then progressed to Goldfield’s St. Helena and Beatrix Mines as a Miner where he was promoted to Shiftboss, Mine Overseer and ultimately Underground Manager. Further experience was gained at Anglo American’s Saaiplaas and at President Steyn Mines as Shaft Manager before rejoining Goldfields as Mining Manager and General Manager. After many years in the operational role he joined Read Swatman & Voight (RSV) as a Consultant and later joined Lonmin as Senior Project Manager.

Mr. Van Staden holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Mining) and a Post Graduate Diploma Business Engineer from University of Warwick. He also holds a Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency and Mine Overseer’ s Certificate of Competency. He is a member of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and is an Associate of the Association of Mine Managers in South Africa (AMMSA).
